Winter outdoor activities in and around Tromsø
In winter, Tromsø becomes a major playground for those who like snow!
Skiing is Norway’s national sport and should be on your bucket list when visiting this country.
If you have never tried skiing before, the Arctic Capital is definitely a good place to start thanks to its scenic and relaxed environment.
Guided cross-country ski trips are organized daily from November to April.
You can also head to Narvik, about three hour’s drive south of Tromsø, and try one of Scandinavia’s largest fall heights ski slopes at Narvikfjellet Ski Resort (you can take the Arctic Route transportation between Tromsø and Narvik, daily between December and March).

If skiing is not your thing, why not try winter hiking?
We have snowshoeing trips suiting different levels on Tromsø island and in the gorgeous Kattfjordeidet valley on Kvaløya, a locals’ favorite place!
Are you curious about trying Snowshoeing for the first time? We offer a Guided easy snowshoeing with a visit to a local cafe tour for you. If you want to combine snowshoeing with a cultural experience, join our “Best Kept Secret: Fjords & Alps in the footsteps of the Coastal Sami” to learn more about Sami culture.
Our most adventurous guests should try our newest tour: fat biking in Tromsø!
If you are looking for a different kind of Arctic experience, try to catch an Arctic char or trout while ice fishing!
