What is Dog Sledding with Carts in Tromsø?
Dog sledding with carts is an exciting autumn alternative version to traditional snow-based sledding. From September until the first snowfall, you can enjoy this unique experience using wheeled carts instead of sleds.
The activity starts with a drive from Tromsø city center to Tamokdalen (about 1 hour and half driving), along fjords, into a beautiful mountain valley, where you’ll have the chance to appreciate the stunning golden and russet red colors of the trees. Some snow can be expected on the ground, though not enough to use the sleds (if enough, we change the carts for the sleds).
This early winter dog sledding adventure typically lasts about two hours of driving (where one passenger is sitting and the other one is driving, and middle way they exchange), and involves a team of about 6 dogs pulling a specially designed cart.
You’ll have the opportunity to steer the cart and use the brakes under the guidance of a professional musher that will teach you how to drive the cart (it’s easy). You will have the possibility to connect with these amazing animals while enjoying the Arctic landscape, even without snow, meet the dog mushers while you are at the dog camp and hear their stories, and be part of this unique adventure that dives into this remote arctic area, without motorized vehicle, just you and the dogs.
After the tour, a warm soup will be waiting for you, as well as bread and warm drinks (coffee, tea, and/ or hot chocolate).

Preparing for your Dog Sledding adventure
To get ready for your dog sledding experience, you’ll need to dress appropriately for the crisp autumn weather. Layer up with warm, comfortable clothing, including thermal underwear, a fleece, and a water-resistant jacket.
Don’t forget to bring a hat, gloves, and a scarf to protect your extremities. Sturdy, waterproof boots are essential for navigating the terrain.
We do provide our guests with overalls, boots and gloves.
Remember to bring sunglasses to protect your eyes from the sun, especially if there’s early snow. Pack a small backpack with water, snacks, and sunscreen.
