Reasons to visit the Norwegian Arctic during winter

You may be wondering why you should visit the Norwegian Arctic for a holiday. Here are several good reasons:

  • It’s one of the best places in the world to see the Northern Lights.
  • The Polar Night allows more opportunities to see the Northern Lights.
  • Tromsø is not as cold as you might think. Owing to the warm currents of the Golf Stream, Tromsø is far milder than other places at the same latitude.
  • You can see whales (including orcas and humpback whales) from November to January in the Tromsø region.
  • It’s a photographer’s paradise – the mountains, landscapes, Northern Lights, snow and Arctic animals offer everything you have ever dreamed of!

If you are travelling to Tromsø and looking for an easy way to get from Tromsø airport to your hotel in downtown Tromsø, you can take the Airport Express Bus. This big red bus will transport you between Tromsø airport (outside the domestic arrivals) and the city centre and vice versa. The trip takes approx. 20 / 25 minutes and the bus stops outside several city centre hotels.

  • Key stops near major hotels:
    • Moxy Hotel
    • Åsgård, Vanberg, Sorgenfri, Sydspissen, Lanesbukta, Strandkanten
    • Polaria
    • Scandic Grand Tromsø (walkable to multiple hotels)
    • Prostneset (close to Clarion, Quality, and Amalia)
    • Scandic Ishavshotel (near Radisson Blu and other hotels)

A convenient and efficient way to reach your accommodation. You can book your ticket online or directly with our bus driver, with card.

BARDUFOSS, NORTHERN NORWAY

Bardufoss Hotel

If you are looking for a unique accommodation getaway in the wilderness, Bardufoss Hotel is a great option! You will find this hidden gem in the village of Bardufoss, located roughly midway between Tromsø and Narvik. A stay here enables you to combine genuine Norwegian local life with activities in the surrounding area, making your stay here a unique experience!

After the Second World War, and as there is an airport and military base in the region, the need to expand Bardufoss became evident. A hotel was built here but unfortunately it burned down in 1963. The hotel was rebuilt and is now run by a local family with strong roots to this region. You can read more about Bardufoss and what to do there here.
