11 May 2023

The best way to enjoy this is to hop on one of our red buses that take you there daily on our Tromsø-Lofoten-Tromsø and Svolvær-Å routes from the 15 June to the 31st August.

The Arctic Route Summer

The Arctic Route buses are a new summer version of our winter Arctic Route. The Arctic Route Summer connects several towns and villages in Lofoten with important towns and cities in Northern Norway such as Tromsø.

This service runs from 15 June to 31 August and is specifically designed to cater to people who want to explore freely. The buses have comfortable seats, large windows, Wi-Fi and toilets, making the journey as enjoyable as the destinations.

One of the biggest advantages of using the Arctic Route buses is that they allow you to access great hiking trails. Most hiking trails are only accessible by car, which can make it difficult for those who don’t have their own transportation.

Choosing to travel by bus is not only more sustainable but it’s also a safe and stress-free way to travel across the archipelago.

Useful tips for hiking in Lofoten

Before you set out on any of these hikes, there are a few tips to keep in mind.

  • Check the weather forecast and dress accordingly. Lofoten is known for its unpredictable weather, so it’s important to be prepared for rain, wind (and even snow). Check out our advice on what to wear and pack here.
  • Bring plenty of water and snacks. Some of these hikes can be long and strenuous, so it’s important to stay hydrated and have enough energy.
  • Respect the natural environment. The Lofoten islands are part of a fragile ecosystem and must be protected. Be sure to follow the Leave No Trace principles and carry out your rubbish.
