From 1 November to 31 January, the Whale Route takes you from Tromsø to your whale watching tour in Skjervøy and back. Have you booked a whale-watching tour in Skjervøy and are looking for transportation from Tromsø? Travel the Whale Route on board our comfortable bus!

Embark on a thrilling Arctic adventure which takes approximately 4 hours to travel between Tromsø and Skjervøy. Departing from Tromsø at 5.30 am, the bus ensures you arrive in Skjervøy around 9.45 am, perfectly timed to kickstart your whale-watching safari, leaving from Skjervøy harbour. The bus leaves Skjervøy after your tour at 1.30 pm and you will be back in downtown Tromsø at 5.40 pm.

Experience the mesmerizing beauty of Skjervøy, a charming destination in Northern Norway, and discover the magic of whale watching amidst the stunning Skjervøy archipelago in the Lyngenfjord region. Immerse yourself in the awe-inspiring sight as majestic whales follow the herring into the protected fjord area.

On your whale-watching tour, you will have the chance to see orcas, humpback whales, and sometimes harbor porpoises. Orcas (also known as killer whales) and humpback whales have been migrating to this area every winter for a few years in search of herring.

The best time to observe these majestic marine mammals is from early November to late January.

Departures times and locations

  • Departure in Tromsø: be there 05:20 (am) inside Bus Terminal Prostneset in Tromsø – Google Maps
  • Departure in Skjervøy at Maritim Hotell: be there at 13:15 (1.15 pm) at the waterside, 1-minute walk from the hotel – Google Maps
  • Departure in Skjervøy: be there at 13:20 (1.20 pm) down at the water behind the supermarket EXTRA – Google Maps
  • Notice: Due to Arctic weather and road conditions driving times can be extended and arrivals can be delayed.

Practical information

The buses have free WI-FI available, USB and charging points, as well as English-speaking drivers and a toilet onboard. Unfortunately, we can’t accommodate animals onboard (except guide dogs).

Food

There is no food included on this route. You can bring food with you on the bus.

Age limit

There is no age limit to take this route. We have children seats available, please get in touch with us to info@bestarctic.com so we arrange it for you.

Luggage transportation

Each passenger may bring one item of easy-to-manage hand baggage, which must fit under the seat or in the overhead rack, as well as an item no larger than height + length + width = 200 cm/23 kg.
