Best Arctic launches the Aurora Express Nightliner
22 December 2025
An unforgettable Arctic overnight bus experience connecting Tromsø and Rovaniemi under the Northern Lights has arrived and is now running.
Best Arctic proudly announces the launch of the Aurora Express Nightliner, an innovative Arctic overnight bus experience that forever changes winter travel in the far north. This northernmost nightliner bus route connects Tromsø, Norway and Rovaniemi, Finland, two iconic Arctic destinations, on a scenic journey beneath the Aurora Borealis.
For adventurers and northern lights travel enthusiasts, the Aurora Express Nightliner isn’t just a standard bus transportation but a true winter travel experience that turns the journey itself into a highlight of a Lapland itinerary. Running every evening from 7 December until the 31th of March, this service departs at approximately 20:50 from Tromsø (or 23:00 from Rovaniemi bus station) and arrives at around 08:00 the next morning (same time at both destinations), letting travelers sleep and save on accommodation while moving comfortably through the Arctic night.
NEW in the Arctic overnight travel
Developed by Best Arctic, the Aurora Express Nightliner blends convenience with adventure, offering an unmatched way to travel between Norway and Finland during the winter season. This nightliner bus is the world’s northernmost overnight bus route, designed for those in search of the northern lights, while travelling between both destinations, saving time and money on a hotel overnight, all of this while enjoying comfortable transit between destinations.
This specially outfitted bus operates nightly throughout the winter, serving both leisure travelers and anyone who wants to combine efficient transportation with the possibility of seeing the northern lights on the way between both destinations. This route stops at multiple scenic stops, including Skibotn, Kilpisjärvi, Levi, and ultimately Rovaniemi, giving passengers the possibility to hop-off or on, along the way. The bus also will stop when northern lights are spotted along the way.
Designed for comfort and discovery
Unlike typical long-distance buses, the Aurora Express Nightliner elevates the overnight journey with a suite of features focused on comfort, convenience, and aurora-viewing possibility:
Panoramic glass rooftop: The upper deck of the bus features large glass panels that allow passengers to gaze directly at the Arctic sky, perfect for spotting the Northern Lights in comfort without stepping outside into the frigid night.
Comfortable seating:Semi-reclining seats with premium options under the panoramas make overnight travel restful. Complimentary blankets, eye masks, and earplugs help ensure guests can sleep soundly.
Onboard amenities: Free Wi-Fi and power outlets keep travelers connected, while scheduled meal stops (breakfast upon arrival at Santa Claus Hotel in Rovaniemi) deliver local culinary comfort.
Aurora alerts & scenic stops: When conditions are optimal, the Nightliner bus driver will provide Northern Lights alerts and pull over at safer spots to let passengers enjoy the spectacle.
Cost-effective and time-efficient Arctic travel
The Aurora Express Nightliner makes winter travel in the Arctic more accessible and efficient. With prices starting around 3.000 NOK per person (first floor), this overnight bus combines transportation, meals and accommodation into one, allowing travelers to make the most of their Arctic trip without extra hotel costs.
The carefully planned departure and arrival times ensure passengers wake up refreshed and ready to explore their destination, whether that’s the cultural gems of Rovaniemi or the fjords and winter adventures of Tromsø. The Nightliner bus also provides an eco-conscious travel option, reducing the need for separate flights and hotel stays.
Perfect for adventure seekers, families, solo travelling and culture lovers
The Aurora Express Nightliner appeals to a wide range of travelers: families, solo adventurers, budget travelers, photography enthusiasts, and anyone captivated by Arctic landscapes and the magic of the Northern Lights. Its schedule allows for seamless connections with other Arctic winter routes and activities, making it an ideal part of a larger Lapland itinerary.
For example, travelers can combine this night bus with the Santa Claus Express, Finland’s famous overnight train service, creating a cross-border Arctic adventure that includes both traditional train travel and the unique Nightliner experience. This combination makes for one of the most unforgettable winter journeys across the Arctic Circle, blending train and bus travel with scenic winter landscapes and cultural highlights.
Launch availability and booking Information
The Aurora Express Nightliner is available for booking now for the full 2025/2026 winter season. Tickets can be reserved online at the Best Arctic website, where travelers can also find detailed route information, scheduling, and travel tips for winter journeys above the Arctic Circle.
Best Arctic continues to champion sustainable travel in the far north, creating winter routes that celebrate nature, culture, and unforgettable experiences while minimizing environmental impact.
